Our Healthy foundations referral scheme works in partnership with Blackfield Health Centre in prescribing exercise for people who could benefit from an increased level of physical activity. If your GP believes undertaking a programme of prescribed exercise could enhance quality of life or help recovery from injury or illness you may be referred to us. In such cases your doctor will recommend you to our Healthy foundations excercise referral scheme by issuing you with a “prescription for exercise” form.
Physiological and psychological conditions that patients are often referred for include:
It is medically proven that regular physical activity or excercise is beneficial in a multitude of ways, leading many people to a happier healthier life! In most cases the symptoms above can be considerably aided by the activities we offer.
*In order to enroll on the scheme you MUST first visit your GP to discuss whether or not excercise will be safe and benficial for you.
Following your GP appointment you will need to book an initial consultation with one of our qualified instructors either over the phone or at reception. This session involves a one to one with an instructor discussing your reasons for referral so that we can prescribe a programme of exercise tailored to your needs. Following your consultation you will be given a tour of the gym where there will be an opportunity to see some of the equipment you will be using as part of your new fitness regime and also the chance to ask questions. Before leaving you will need to book in with the instructor a convenient time to be inducted in to the gym and to advocate a programme of exercise.
Please note: During this session you will not be required to partake in physical activity however you will need to fill out a medical questionnaire and may need to undertake simple physical tests. Initial Consultation lasts approximately 45 minutes to one hour and you will need to bring your prescription for exercise form with you, plus a list of any current medication you are taking.
During the first session you will be required to undertake some physical activity. You will be inducted in to the gym being briefed in all aspects of Health and Safety before trying out different pieces of equipment tailored to the needs of your referral. Your programme will be constructed under the guidance of one of our instructors based on the outcome of your fitness tests and initial assessment. Whilst exercising in the gym the preferred choice of attire are trainers, track suite bottoms and a t-shirt, however you may wish to wear shorts, a vest or any other comfortable clothing suitable for exercise.
*Gym induction and programmes last approximately 45 mins to 1 hour. Please wear loose, casual clothing. Shoes, sandals and jeans are not permitted whilst using the gym.
