Then on 5th November there will be a Free Fire Work display at Newlands Road Fawley for all local residents, although people will be asked if they would make a donation. The Council is seeking a celebrity to open the event which will commence with a charity Zumbathon in aid of Duchennes disease, followed by bonfire, fire work display and Music Concert. There will be a bar, hog roast, burger vans and small fair rides to amuse the children and live bands will be encouraging people to linger a while into the evening. Local schools and children are being asked to build Guys and every Guy made will be placed on the bonfire with the winning entrant taking pride of place at the top and its maker receiving a £50 prize.
Councillor Bob Wappett said ‘we are building on events for local residents and hope they will support these as potentially annual events in the future’. There will be more exciting things to do this December in Fawley Village as Fawley Events Committee and local residents get together to put on Christmas Celebrations 2011. With funding from the National Lottery and local business the group will be putting up Christmas lights around the village square to create that festive atmosphere along with real reindeer and guaranteed snow. Chair of the group, Mrs Mary Stoker said ‘This promises to be the best event in the Forest and we are bracing ourselves for the same numbers of visitors we had last year. We have more stalls, more rides, more entertainment and a bigger parade’. Last year over a thousand people turned up and organisers were forced to rush out and buy more gifts for the children going into Santa’s Grotto, but the group have guaranteed they won’t be caught out this year.
Just some of the attractions this year will be Santa’s Grotto with Elves, fair rides, a market, a bazaar, a hog roast, snow machines and a children’s fancy dress / lantern parade. There will be fancy dress outfits available for children to use, which can be collected from Fawley School on the day, but organisers are hoping that children will also make their own costumes and turn up to join in the fun. The event, which is due to take place on 10 December, starts with the parade at 3.45pm and will then go on till 7pm. This will be the first year it has been run by the new committee, which was formed after last year’s huge success.
