Physiotherapists can diagnose and treat most musculoskeletal conditions using a variety of different treatment modalities. Commonly treated conditions include low back pain, sciatica, neck pain, whiplash, shoulder pain, tennis elbow, golfers elbow, osteoarthritis, plantar faciaitis of the foot, sprained ankle, achilles tendinitis, strained muscles, and chronic pain syndromes such as fibromyalgia to name a few.
Treatment modalities used by physiotherapists can include exercise to improve muscle strength, range of movement, or posture; manual therapy to mobilise or manipulate joints; electrotherapy such as ultrasound to reduce inflammation or TENS to reduce pain; cognitive behavioural therapy to alleviate chronic pain behaviour patterns.
Physiotherapists are highly trained in anatomy and physiology, and as part of our treatment will educate the patient on their condition and how to manage it in the future. We also work very closely with orthopaedic surgeons and can offer advice and treatment for anyone considering an orthopaedic operation or help with rehabilitation following surgery, such as a joint replacement or ligament reconstruction.

Emily completed her degree in Sports Therapy at the University of Chichester, and is registered with the Society of Sports Therapists. Emily is experienced in both clinical and sporting environments, and has worked as the sports therapist for the University of Chichester’s men’s rugby team, where she delivered treatment and pitch side first aid, and the University of Chichesters Sports Therapy Clinic. She has a clinical interest and specialist training in core stability exercises.
Her interest in sport began at an early age; she was always part of her school’s netball, athletics, tennis and lacrosse teams. She is also a keen surfer and sailor. It was this love of sport, knowledge and experience of injuries that inspired her interest in sports therapy.
Emily’s approach is always to find and treat the underlying cause to each problem, her aim is to treat the root of the problem not just the symptoms. She also believes that educating the patient in understanding the cause and mechanism of their pain is a major part of the rehabilitation process.
